The Alta Langa, a unique and limited area, organized the most suitable area for the cultivation of Piedmont IGP hazelnuts. The hilly area offers optimal exposure and soil conditions not found in any other area of Piedmont and the world.

The harmonious combination with cocoa dates back to the beginning of the 19th century. In fact, due to a commercial blockade,
the chocolate could hardly reach people throughout Italy and, what was available, was sold at prohibitive prices. The invention of the gianduia must be recollected to the creativity of Michele Prochet, a pastry chef from Turin, who had the brilliant idea of mixing cocoa with the very fine toasted Piedmont hazelnut PGI flour.
